This is the beginning.
For those who don't know me...
I am ...
- a proud Nicaraguan
- happy wife to a loving Afghan (only in America, I know)
- devoted mother of 5 girls (my "little things")
- a lover of... Disney, ice cream, dancing, Summer, parties, crowds, comedy and ellipses.
I was thumbing through my Facebook page today and as I read through my notes... I realized there is so much I want to remember and never ... ever ... forget. But it's not always readily available. I have some notes on Facebook, some small entries on years-old calendars (I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to calendars... for the very reason I'm typing today... because I want to remember). So I've now decided to start this blog and place all those memories (and other things) in one place. Where they'll always be found!
Please read through these and let's share some giggles...
May 2014: MJ stayed home from school because she was coughing all night and woke up with a raspy voice; but that didn't stop her from talking all day. Most recent conversation was about a kid from school: "so he lost his tooth at 2:30... get it? It's funny. Get it? Two thirty... twoooo thirrrrty... twoooth irrrrty... tooth hurty... ??? Get it mom? Get it? Because he lost his tooth at 2:30... and his tooth hurt--y" Next time I'll give her a cough drop and send her on her way.
April 17 2014: Took my time coming downstairs this morning; found that Safiya had hidden Cheerio filled Easter eggs for the twins to find and empty into their cereal bowl. That girl's going to be the mom I wish I was!!! So blessed to have my girls!!!
April 7 2014: Maleah had her 1st tae kwon do class today. There was another girl who was new & was apprehensive about participating. She told Maleah that she didn't feel that she was good at anything; Maleah told her "the best thing you can do is try; you'll do fine" ♥
April 6 2014: LOVE this girl's (Samira's) ideas! She created a "book tree". Neighborhood kids are invited to bring a book they're done reading and exchange it for one from the book tree. (I've asked her to add some of the twins' books so that kids of all ages can enjoy the tree... those will come soon) Happy reading!! :-)
April 3 2014: Cutest thing ever?! Hearing the twinkies try to say "bismillah ir rahman ir rahim" (in the name of God; the supremely merciful, the most kind) when I tuck them in... especially because it sounds something like "bismlah laham laheem" Hahahaha!!!
March 25 2014: "Olivia, where's your sister?"
"Down-tairs eetin cheyeeyal" (eating cereal)"Why are YOU up HERE?"
"Be-tuss I'm happy to see you!"
... nicely done Liv ... very well played!!!
March 24 2014: CRAP!!! Dumb window-replacement companies sending their minions to my house to try to sell me windows!!! The girls were JUST walking in from school; so of course, my door was open... they start their schpeel and I interrupt saying "Oh...sorry...we rent here" {because they're skilled in the art of selling past the 'I'm not interested' responses} Well...HELL... I should have just grabbed their card and said yes to their offer of an estimate; because now I'm left explaining to my highly disappointed girls that: 1. NO, we're NOT renting and DO in fact own our house. 2. It wasn't exactly a LIE as much as it was a form of avoidance. UGH!!
March 16 2014: The girls open the door for the pizza girl who says "Ooh! A sleepover??" ... I say "No. They're all mine." hahaha I love my big family!
March 9 2014: Watching Roberto Benigni's Pinocchio with the girls; Olivia calls it "Okidoki-oh" hahaha
March 6 2014: I might be a little obsessed!!! So EXCITED when I spotted them (Rapunzel & Flynn going to Elsa's coronation); & the girls' reactions?! "Mom, you DO realize they're not real" Who's children are these and where's my Disney loving spawn?!
February 28 2014: Everything was so new; so different. I was scared. Nerves torn to shreds. I knew this would change our lives forever. Then I heard her cry and it ripped my heart right out of my chest. Instinctively; without any hesitation, I reached for her and grabbed her, pulling her close to my chest. I wasn't going to let go. Ever. She was perfect. And she was all mine. It's been 11 years; but I will NEVER forget the first time I saw her face, for it was then that I became a mother and it was she who taught me how to love like one! Happy birthday to my kind-hearted, brilliant, independent, stubborn-as-heck, mama's girl!!! Love you more than words can say, Samira!! xoxo
February 17 2014: 94 years ago on this day, God decided to send an angel to earth. The angel was meant to touch lives and she did! God called his angel back many years and tears ago and left an empty space in our hearts. When I tuck my girls in at night; I tell them to "sleep with the angels"... knowing she's one!! Happy Birthday Mamia! Me hace tremenda falta!!!
February 14 2014: "It came without chocolates! It came without tarts! It came without Cupid, roses, or hearts! And it puzzled and puzzed, till its puzzler was sore.
Then the ruptured disc thought of something it hadn't before!'Maybe Valentine's Day,' it thought, 'doesn't come from a store. Maybe Valentine's Day… perhaps… means a little bit more.' "
Laying/sitting home in pain isn't how I expected to spend my Valentine's Day; but my heart grew 3 sizes today as my girls & my love (Suhile) carefully cuddled around me this morning!! Much love to all of you; today & everyday!
January 19 2014: We heard Olivia crying; went to check on her...Alhena had handcuffed her & made her climb into the dog's crate. She crawled in just fine; but quickly realized she didn't fit when she tried to sit up. I had to open the top of the crate to free her. -_-
January 5 2014: Mami is telling Olivia (in Spanish) she needs to get out of her clothes and into her PJs. In between Mami's sentence, Olivia is going "...but...but...but...but..." Finally she says "...BUT... my dunno what you sayin'!!"
Dec 19 2013: My babies are getting old. Olivia just said "Who put Pongebob on tv? Is 'sposed to be Caillou!"
Dec 10 2013: Funniest conversation of ALL time just happened; Maleah: "Mom. You know in the old days when blacks weren't allowed to be married to whites?" Me: "Uh huh" Her: "Well, if that still existed; would you and dad be married right now?" Me: o_0 "Baby, daddy's not black" Her: "Oh" hahahaha This girl!!!!
Nov 29 2013: I asked Olivia to please give me privacy in the bathroom; she said "FINE! You a meanie and a bully! Doodbye! Foe evow (forever)!!!" & slammed the door behind her. Let me remind you; she's 2 friggin years old! Drama much?!
Nov 8 2013: I coughed (dealing with a cold) & Livy stopped what she was doing, turned around & said, "You ok, mommy? You want some water?" Love my kindhearted girls!! So blessed!
Oct 30 2013: Maleah; while working on math homework: "MOM!! You should feel my forehead! It's wet from work sweat!" How do they come up with this crap??!!
Oct 23 2013: Olivia (2years2months): "Mom. My like yo nipple on yo awmpit." Me: "That's neither a nipple; nor an armpit. That's a mole on my arm." Olivia: "Oh. My like yo mole on yo awm." 'Thanks baby' -_-
